From March 23 to 24, the fourth meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held in Beijing. The meeting heard and discussed a report by China ’s Vice Premier Li Peng on China ’s economic situation and energy construction issues, and a report by Ma Hongzuo, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, on seizing opportunities to welcome a new technological revolution. From May 12 to 26, the second meeting of the Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held in Beijing. Chairman Deng Yingchao presided over the opening and delivered a speech. She emphasized the glorious tradition and style of the United Front, mainly including political consultation, democratic supervision, cooperation inside and outside the party, making friends, self-education and self-reform. The meeting listened to the work report of the Standing Committee of the Sixth CPPCC National Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, and the report on the work of the proposal since the first meeting of the Sixth CPPCC National Committee of the CPPCC National Committee Xiao Hua. Participants attended the second meeting of the Sixth National People's Congress and heard a government work report and other relevant reports made by Premier Zhao Ziyang of the State Council. The meeting passed the "Political Resolution of the Second Session of the Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference" and "Resolution on the Work Report of the Standing Committee of the Second Session of the Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference". The resolution fully agrees with the government's work report. In the new year, we must continue to implement the principles of socialist material civilization and spiritual civilization, and insist on focusing on the two major issues of institutional reform and opening up in economic work; We firmly support our government's resumption of the exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong and its special policy towards Hong Kong in 1997. The meeting agreed with the work report of the Standing Committee and considered that the work achievements in the past year have been remarkable. The meeting held that Chairman Deng Yingchao's speech at the opening ceremony was a summary of the work experience of the United Front and a guide for the work of the CPPCC. The meeting co-opted Ma Wenrui, Mao Yisheng, and Liu Jingji as vice chairmen of the Sixth National Committee of the CPPCC, and Liu Haisu was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National Committee of the CPPCC.

From November 10th to 15th, the seventh meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held in Beijing. The meeting learned the "Central Committee's Decision on Economic System Reform" adopted by the Third Plenary Session of the Twelfth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; heard the report of Lu Dong, director of the State Economic Commission on the reform of the economic system; discussed and adopted the "About Earnestly study and implement the "Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Reform of the Economic System". The resolution pointed out that the decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China is an extremely important document with far-reaching historical significance and creatively planned the blueprint for comprehensive reform of China's economic system. The meeting requested that CPPCC organizations at all levels carefully study and understand the spirit of the "Decision", give full play to the advantages of the CPPCC, actively support and promote the work of reforming the national economic system, and contribute to the smooth progress of the reform. The meeting also heard a report by the Deputy Foreign Minister Zhou Nan on the Hong Kong issue and discussed and passed the "Resolution on Endorsing the Joint Statement on Hong Kong Issue Drafted by the Chinese and British Governments". The resolution pointed out that the successful settlement of the Hong Kong issue according to the concept of "one country, two systems" is a major event in the modern history of China and the world, a major step towards the reunification of the motherland, and is conducive to the early completion of the great cause of the motherland's reunification. The meeting also reviewed the written reports of a group of CPPCC delegations visiting the country and members of the country in some areas.

From November 17th to 27th, the General Office of the National Committee of the CPPCC and the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee jointly held a seminar on the work of united fronts of the open coastal cities and special economic zones and the CPPCC. Participants in the symposium included the National People's Political Consultative Conference, the Central United Front Work Department and 4 Special Economic Zones, 14 Coastal Open Cities CPPCC and the United Front Work Department, as well as relevant persons in charge of the relevant departments of the State Council and the Democratic Party Central Committee. At the meeting, Xi Zhongxun, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Secretariat, spoke. He mainly talked about the situation at home and abroad, the issue of united front work serving socialist modernization, and giving full play to the role of the People's Political Consultative Conference, the Democratic Parties and the Federation of Industry and Commerce, the Overseas Chinese Federation, and the Taiwan Federation. The entire party must attach importance to and strengthen the united front work. The problem. Yang Jingren, vice chairman of the Sixth National Committee of the CPPCC and minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the meeting. He talked about four issues: First, the importance and characteristics of the united front work in open coastal cities and special economic zones; second, the task of united front work in open coastal cities and special economic zones; third, attention should be paid to ideological work in reform and opening up; and fourth, adapting to opening up The situation will further improve and resolve the working conditions of the Democratic Parties and the Federation of Industry and Commerce. At the meeting, State Councilor Gu Mu emphasized the issue of how the united front work served reform, opening up, and economic construction, and answered some specific policy questions raised by the participants. After studying and discussing, the participants improved their understanding of the significance and urgency of the reform of the entire economic system, their awareness of the strategic significance of implementing the policy of opening up to the outside world, and increased the consciousness of the united front work serving the general task of the new period. Through the exchange of work, preliminary summary of experience, research work, and some policy issues, the conference made a good start to creating a new situation in the united front of open coastal cities and special economic zones and the work of the CPPCC.
